Drakkenhold Studios
A small team. A slow build. One kingdom, taken seriously.
What we are
Drakkenhold Studios is a 14-person team working out of a converted cathedral-warehouse in northern Europe. We have shipped three games before this one, none of them MMORPGs, all of them long-shadow games with heavy lore spines — the kind you remember ten years after you stopped playing. Drakkenhold is our first attempt at a world you never stop playing.
What we believe
MMORPGs in the last decade have been hollow. We love the genre; we think it was solved badly. Drakkenhold is our answer to three questions we found nobody else wanted to answer:
- Can a build commitment still mean something? Yes, if respec has a real cost. We chose to make it cost a founder title and seven days of exile. Most players will never change class. That's the point.
- Can open-world siege still work at scale? Yes, if the castles are few, the windows are regular, and the map is built around them. Thirty-two keeps, not three hundred. Hard to take, hard to keep.
- Can lore be written by players without becoming noise? Yes, if the Chronicle is curated server-side. Every siege outcome, every founding, every death-of-note is named. Low-signal events aren't recorded. The tavern bards cite the high-signal ones by name.
What we won't ship
No loot boxes. No randomised paid chests. No gacha. No paid XP. Not at launch, not after. This is a written commitment, not a marketing line. We will refund any founder title if we break it.
No pay-to-win. The founder title carries a name-ring and nothing that affects combat. Gold, gear, and class tiers are all earned in-world.
No real-money gambling mechanics. Drakkenhold is a game, not a casino-in-costume. We do not simulate slot machines, dice-rolls-for-cash, or any wagering mechanic that maps to regulated real-money gambling.
What we will ship — and when
Closed beta — Q1 2027, for the first 10,000 founders. Six weeks ahead of the broad wave so founders can commit to class paths before the meta is solved.
Open beta — Q2 2027. The remaining Compact houses are playable. Broad-wave founders join. The first clan-sieges on the beta continent run the Chronicle for real.
Launch — Q4 2027. One continent. Thirty-two keeps. Four races. Twenty-four class end-points. No expansion promised in year one — we want the kingdom to settle before we build more of it.
